Sleep deprivation impairs your mood and communication skills.11,12
- Sleep-deprived individuals can experience irritability, anxiety, and depression. For example, you may avoid communicating with difficult patients or family members because you view them in a more negative light.
- You can feel confused, less vigorous, and fatigued or sleepy at inappropriate times.
- Inappropriate behavior can occur, such as giggling or laughing in serious situations.
- Communication skills decrease. You may fumble for the right word, say the wrong word, or misinterpret another person’s words.
