Terminology Resources
Value sets are lists of codes and corresponding terms from NLM-hosted standard clinical vocabularies (such as SNOMED CT®, RxNorm, LOINC® and others) that define clinical concepts. Value sets represent “allowable” values for a particular data element in an electronic health record (EHR), message, or application programming interface (API) and enable seamless and interoperable health-information exchange.
NHSN dQM terminology resources are comprised of value sets and other artifacts derived from terminology standards. NHSN-defined attributes (such as categories of diabetic medications or grouping bacteria and fungi by species and genus) are linked to standardized codes in catalogs that are used by NHSN for analysis and reporting purposes.
