Social Media Comment and Privacy Policy

The World Trade Center (WTC) Health Program maintains a presence on Facebook and Twitter to share Program news, updates, and research information with members and the public. The Program also uses these social media channels to conduct outreach to individuals who are potentially eligible to become members of the Program.

Comment Policy

As a part of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the WTC Health Program social media accounts follow the CDC Guidelines for Public Comments. We ask that you comment in a respectful manner. The WTC Health Program retains the discretion to determine which comments violate the CDC Guidelines for Public Comments. We also reserve the right to hide, remove, and/or not allow comments to be posted per the guidelines. Please refer to the CDC Guidelines for Public Comments for more information.

Privacy Statement

The WTC Health Program follows all privacy and data retention and archiving policies of CDC. Please visit the CDC Privacy Policy for detailed information about these CDC policies.

Please note that Facebook and Twitter are not government websites or applications. If you choose to follow, like, friend, or comment on posts, certain personally identifiable information associated with your Facebook or Twitter account may be visible to other users based on the privacy policies of Facebook or Twitter and your privacy settings.

Please do not post personally identifiable information about yourself or others on the WTC Health Program Facebook Page or to us on the Program’s Twitter feed that identifies you in a way you do not intend. Personally identifiable information includes sensitive information, such as social security numbers, WTC Health Program ID #, medical information, contact information, etc.

Medical Disclaimer

Advice on treatment or care of an individual patient should be obtained through consultation with a physician or other health professional that who has examined the patient and is familiar with the patient's medical history.

The WTC Health Program will not address specific issues or questions related to personal eligibility, applications, benefits, or care on Facebook or Twitter because the Program cannot protect your personal health information on these social media platforms.

HIPAA

The WTC Health Program is required by law (the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) and associated regulations) to maintain the privacy and security of members’ personal health information and to provide notice of its legal duties and privacy practices with respect to how members’ personal health information is held by the WTC Health Program and will be used and disclosed by the WTC Health Program.
