Office-based physician data

In 2020, the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) collected physician-level data throughout the NAMCS data collection period using the Physician Induction Interview. NCHS only collected data about patient visits from office-based physicians between January and March 2020. NCHS did not collect data about 2020 patient visits that occurred after March.

COVID-19

Questions about COVID-19 were added to the 2020 physician induction interview in periods 3 and 4 (December 15, 2020–May 5, 2021). A smaller restricted data file covering only these periods is available through the NCHS Research Data Center. This file allows researchers to replicate data from the NAMCS COVID-19 Dashboards.
