Major Findings
Data from the American Community Survey was used to examine patterns among select socioeconomic variables (percent poverty, percent less than high school education and median household income by county) in relation to blood pressure medication nonadherence to better understand potential health inequities. There appears to be correlation between medication nonadherence and the select socioeconomic variables. The highest rates among the socioeconomic variables are found in similar geographic locations to the highest rates of blood pressure medication nonadherence, specifically in the west central area of the state.
ArcGIS
Blood Pressure Medication Nonadherence was accessed via the CDC Interactive Atlas of Heart Disease and Stroke. Other variables were accessed via the American Community Survey, 2012-2016.
Data was imported into ArcGIS. Each dataset was divided into quantiles.
