This map shows calculations for high blood pressure medication adherence rates for the combined 2015–2016 Michigan Medicaid population 18–64 years old. The lowest rate of adherence was 40.7%, and the highest was 72.5%. The map also shows the average number of Medicaid members in each county, ranging from 143 to 230,997. Counties with a large number of members and low rate of adherence included Saginaw, Genesee, Ingham, Kent, Kalamazoo, and Wayne counties.

Data sources

This map gives county-level rates of medication adherence in the Medicaid population, along with the average number of members from each county from 2015–2016. The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services hopes to focus our efforts to improve adherence on counties with low levels of adherence and a high number of members.

This map is the first in a map series looking at differences in adherence in counties across the state, the extent to which those differences are significant, and opportunities to address disparities with partner organizations.
