Survivor Eligibility Requirements

Were you a child, teenager, and/or student in the New York City Disaster Area on or soon after 9/11? You might not realize that you may qualify as a Survivor for no-cost, 9/11-related healthcare benefits through the World Trade Center (WTC) Health Program.

Were you in the NYC Disaster Area (Lower Manhattan of parts of Brooklyn) on or soon after 9/11 for any of the following reasons?

Activity Time Period Minimum Hour Requirements
  • Worked
  • Lived
  • Went to school
  • Attended child-care or adult daycare
9/11/2001 to 1/10/2002 4 days (Each day must be at least 4 hours)
9/11/2001 to 7/31/2002 30 days (Each day must be at least 4 hours)
  • Present in the dust or dust cloud
9/11/2001 Any amount of time

And are you sick because of WTC exposures?

If you have symptoms or are diagnosed with a covered condition related to your exposure on 9/11, you may be eligible to apply. Many don’t know their health symptoms may be related to 9/11. Some symptoms are:

  • Persistent cough or wheezing
  • Constant runny or stuffy nose
  • Chronic heartburn or acid reflux
  • Trouble sleeping, anxiety, or depression

If you answered YES to the above questions, you could be eligible to enroll as a Survivor in the WTC Health Program.
