Overview

The National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) developed the State and Local Area Integrated Telephone Survey (SLAITS) as a data collection method to supplement national surveys and vital statistics. SLAITS provided in-depth state and local area data. NCHS conducted different surveys about different topics over the life of the SLAITS program.

NCHS last conducted SLAITS in 2014.

Data

Not every question on SLAITS questionnaires will appear in the public use data sets. Questions that do not have a corresponding variable may contain restricted use data.

The following list may be helpful in identifying restricted variables in various SLAITS surveys.

National Survey of Children's Health

The 2011–2012 National Survey of Children's Health (NSCH) data are currently accessible through the Research Data Center, though variable lists have not yet been developed. Users will need to rely on the questionnaire and the public data specifications to infer what restricted data should be available for this data set. Please see the NSCH website.
