The Electronic Disease Notification system (EDN) is a centralized electronic reporting system that notifies U.S. state and local health departments and screening clinics of the arrival of refugees and immigrants with health conditions requiring medical follow-up.
What is EDN?
The Electronic Disease Notification system (EDN) is a centralized electronic reporting system that notifies U.S. state and local health departments and screening clinics of the arrival of refugees and immigrants with health conditions requiring medical follow-up. EDN was developed by CDC in 2006 and is used under the authority of the Immigration and Nationality Act (8 U.S. Code 1522).
What information is reported through EDN?
U.S. state and local health departments can access documentation of the overseas medical exam12 as reported on the following U.S. Department of State forms:
- DS-2054 Medical Examination for Immigrant or Refugee Applicant
- DS-3030 Tuberculosis (TB) Worksheet
- DS-3025 Vaccination Documentation Worksheet
- DS-3026 Medical History and Physical Examination Worksheet
U.S. public health departments and other authorized healthcare providers use this information during CDC-recommended post-arrival medical examinations of refugees. U.S. health departments complete TB follow-up worksheets which report follow-up data to the National Tuberculosis Indicators Project (NTIP). NTIP uses this data to prevent, control, and eventually eliminate tuberculosis in the United States.
Who can access EDN?
Only authorized users can access the system. State and local health department officials, as well as staff in health clinics that treat immigrants and refugees, may request access to the EDN system.
How can I get more information on EDN?
