Seven Deadly Sins Recap
Deadly Sins Wrap-up
Now that you’ve committed the Seven Deadly Sins of Scientific Writing to memory, here are some final words of wisdom from Rick Hull:
- Be on the lookout for these sins. You can easily make it a point to look for some of them.
- Cast a cold eye on the beginning and ending of every sentence you write. Remember that conveying complex information makes you more likely to inadvertently separate a modifier from the thing it’s meant to modify.
- Look out for strings of three or more consecutive nouns.
Coda
I leave you with these heartening words from Samuel Johnson:
“Read over your composition, and when you meet with a passage that you think particularly fine, strike it out.”
