Workplace health and safety

Medical examiners and coroners may encounter risks to their health and safety as they work. CDC's National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) provides resources to aid understanding, identification, and risk assessment in the workplace.

NIOSH also conducts studies to identify specific risks in different work settings. NIOSH has conducted several of these studies in medical examiners and coroner offices.

National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health‎

NIOSH is the part of CDC that studies worker safety and health. NIOSH conducts research and makes recommendations to prevent work-related injury and illness.

Disaster preparedness and response

Natural and human-caused disasters can create challenges for death investigators. CDC has compiled resources and materials to help you carry out your duties during and after a disaster.

Infectious diseases

Death investigators play an important role in determining the causes of unexplained deaths and critical illnesses. CDC supports medical examiners, coroners, and forensic pathologists by providing testing, biosafety recommendations, and protocols for situations involving infectious diseases.
