Accessing NASS Data

What to know

ART surveillance data are sensitive. Due to confidentiality restrictions, access to the National ART Surveillance System (NASS) data is strictly protected. This web page describes how to access the NASS clinic-level datasets that are available.

NASS clinic-level datasets

Fertility clinic success rates and clinic profiles that are based on the most recent year of data are available on CDC's ART Success Rates website. In addition, NASS clinic-level datasets are available for download for each reporting year since 1995, although the structure of the datasets has varied over time. Beginning with reporting year 2020, there are four datasets available for each year. These datasets may be linked by "ClinicID," a unique identifier for each ART clinic that reported cycles. The datasets include:

  • Final Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) Summary: This dataset compiles all clinic-level data included in the other three datasets.
  • Final Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) Services and Profiles: This dataset provides information on clinic services, contact information, location, medical director name, and summary statistics for each clinic.
  • Final Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) Patient and Cycle Characteristics: This dataset summarizes the types of ART services performed and the characteristics of patients who received ART procedures in each clinic. Note that aggregate patient characteristics are presented for reported cycles rather than for patients. Patients who had more than one ART cycle within the reporting year are represented more than once.
  • Final Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) Success Rates: This dataset provides success rates by clinic for ART cycles started during the year indicated stratified, by patient and cycle type.
