SPAN is the CDC-funded State Physical Activity and Nutrition program. Recipients implement proven nutrition and physical activity strategies to address health disparities related to nutrition, physical activity, or obesity. Past recipients worked in 5-year periods from 2018 to 2023 and from 2013 to 2018.

State Public Health Actions 2013 to 2018

SPAN was originally called State Public Health Actions.

Program Description

Funded statewide initiatives to prevent, manage, and reduce the risk factors associated with chronic diseases—including childhood and adult obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and stroke.
