CDC activated its Emergency Operations Center (EOC) to support the response to Tropical Storm Ernesto.
About the Response
CDC activated its EOC to support public health needs in the aftermath of Tropical Storm Ernesto. Ernesto developed from a tropical wave off the coast of Venezuela on August 24, 2006.
Three days later, it grew to a category 1 hurricane near Haiti before weakening as it moved across Cuba as a tropical storm. Ernesto made landfall in Brunswick County, North Carolina on August 31, 2006.
Heavy rainfall from August 31 to September 1 resulted in extensive flooding of low-lying areas, roads, and streams across eastern North Carolina. CDC provided environmental, worker safety, and risk communication/health education.
