February 1982
DHHS (NIOSH) Publication Number 82-103
Proceedings of the September 1980 NIOSH Conference on Occupational Safety Research and Education are presented. Papers pertain to labor needs in safety research, injury epidemiology, accident injury study, machine design safety, ergonomics, protective equipment, and economics. Educational program approaches for labor, business, public health, engineering, and psychology are discussed. Industrial input, union and university cooperation, university labor management, safety faculty requirements, problems, and continuing education (undergraduate and graduate) programs are evaluated. The authors conclude that NIOSH should stimulate communication in the field, provide widespread information, establish a curriculum board, and assist degree programs with funding.
