Approaches To Safe Nanotechnology

2006
NIOSH Docket Number 59

Nanotechnology is the manipulation of matter on a near-atomic scale to produce new structures, materials, and devices. This technology has the ability to transform many industries and to be applied in many ways to areas ranging from medicine to manufacturing. As with any material being developed, scientific data on the health effects in exposed workers are largely unavailable. This document recommends key components of an occupational safety and health program, including exposure monitoring, engineering controls, personal protective equipment, and administrative controls [DHHS (NIOSH) Publication No. 2009-125].
