Technical and Software Requirements
Viewing the Tutorial
To view the tutorial, you will need the following:
- an Internet browser configured to allow pop-up windows;
- monitor resolution of 800 by 600 pixels or greater; and
- Adobe Acrobat Reader.
What is the optimum resolution?
A monitor resolution of 800 by 600 pixels is the minimum to use the tutorial because the CDC website is at least 800 pixels wide. If you use a narrower width resolution, you will have to scroll side to side, as well as up and down. 1024 by 780 pixels is recommended.
How do I get the free Adobe Acrobat Reader?
You can download the free Adobe Acrobat Reader from Adobe’s website here.
All NHANES documentation is in Acrobat .PDF format. You will need the Reader to view and read the documentation that accompanies the data files.
Running Sample Code
These requirements apply only to modules with sample code. You must have a software license to run these programs on your personal computer. Program code used in this tutorial follows procedures available in the following statistical software packages:
- SUDAAN (Research Triangle Institute, Research Triangle Park, NC)
- SAS (SAS Institute Inc, Cary, NC)
- Stata (StataCorp, College Station, TX)
The sample code is all SAS or SAS-executable SUDAAN. If you are using a Macintosh or Unix computer, you should download the data files from the NHANES web pages, as these are in SAS transport format (.XPT), and can be extracted and used on Windows, Macintosh, or Unix computers.
