Purpose
There are multiple steps in the process to add new and revise existing codes in the International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-10-CM). Learn about this process for reviewing, discussing, and approving proposals.

Proposal process
- Members of the public, representatives from the private sector, and those in government can submit proposals.
- The committee must receive proposals before the submission deadline for the next scheduled meeting.
- The committee will acknowledge all proposals it receives. Receipt does not guarantee approval for presentation.
- Incomplete proposals will be returned to the submitter.

- The committee does not discuss reimbursement, insurance, and payor issues.
- No decisions are made at the meeting.
- The committee welcomes public and written comments during and after the meeting.
