Tailored social media outreach
South Dakota deployed a focused media placement strategy to reach individuals at risk of overdose in specific counties on popular social media platforms such as Facebook, YouTube, and Snapchat. The messages encouraged visits to the "Take Action and Find Help" website pages to explore alternate pain management options. Additionally, radio messages were used to reach rural counties and tribal communities.
Overdose prevention rapid response for teens and families
In response to a cluster of overdoses among high school students, South Dakota deployed a rapid communications response comprised of overdose prevention education, safe drug disposal, and naloxone messaging within a 20-mile radius of the cluster. The messaging reached parents and teens within the community, encouraged discussion, and gave directions to resources and services.
