Civets

  • On January 13, 2004, CDC issued a notice for an immediate ban on the import of all civets and published in the federal register on January 23, 2004.

Dogs

  • Updated Regulation for the Importation of Dogs and Cats (42 CFR 71.51).
    • CDC announced updates to its dog and cat importation regulation (42 CFR 71.51) and related definitions (42 CFR 71.50) on May 8, 2024 and published in the federal register on May 13, 2024. This is effective August 1, 2024 at 12:01AM ET.

Importation of human remains

Suspension of entry of animals, articles, or things from designated foreign countries and places into the United States

Under the authority of the Public Health Service Act, and as outlined in 42 CFR 71.63, Suspension of Entry of Animals, Articles, or Things from Designated Foreign Countries and Places into the United States, the CDC Director can prevent importation of certain animals, articles, or other things that may cause a disease outbreak or public health emergency.
