About Partners and Organizational Support for IIS

Task Force on Community Preventive Services

The Task Force on Community Preventive Services completed a systematic review of all available studies on the effectiveness of IIS in July 2010, and recommends IIS on the basis of strong evidence of effectiveness in increasing vaccination rates. Evidence is considered strong based on the findings from 71 published papers and 123 conference abstracts showing that IIS are directly related to increasing vaccination rates and reducing vaccine-preventable disease through their capabilities to:

1. Create or support effective interventions such as client reminder and recall systems, provider assessment and feedback, and provider reminders.
2. Generate and evaluate public health responses to outbreaks of vaccine-preventable disease.
3. Facilitate vaccine management and accountability.
4. Determine client vaccination status for decisions made by clinicians, health departments, and schools.
5. Aid surveillance and investigations on vaccination rates, missed vaccination opportunities, invalid dose administration, and disparities in vaccination coverage.

National Vaccine Advisory Committee (NVAC)

The National Vaccine Advisory Committee (NVAC) advises and makes recommendations to the Director of the National Vaccine Program on matters related to program responsibilities, and serves in an advisory role to the Assistant Secretary for Health, within the United States Department of Health and Human Services. NVAC has issued several reports and recommendations on IIS. The most recent reports are listed below:

AIRA (American Immunization Registry Association)

The American Immunization Registry Association (AIRA) exists to support and promote the use of immunization information to ensure healthy communities through the development and implementation of immunization information systems (IIS) as a crucial tool in preventing vaccine-preventable diseases.

PHII makes public health informatics real, understandable and actionable by making available concrete resources, guidance and training to the public health practitioners who plan and shape the future of childhood immunizations.

PHII supports the public health workforce through skill-building, and trains public health practitioners to increase their ability to collect, manage and use information to support public health practice.
