IIS Policies: Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands

What to know

Immunization information systems (IIS) are confidential, population-based, computerized databases that record all immunization doses administered by participating providers to persons residing within a given geopolitical area. This information details how to access immunization records for vaccine recipients who received a vaccine in the Northern Mariana Islands.

General Information

The Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands' IIS is called WebIZ, and it includes immunization records for vaccine recipients of all ages. Visit this webpage to learn more about the IIS.

Child Consent to Participate

For children who receive a COVID-19 booster vaccine, WebIZ requires explicit consent with opt-out by operational policy. Parent(s)/guardian(s) of these child vaccine recipients must give explicit consent, or opt in, for their children to participate in the IIS.

Adult Consent to Participate

For adults who receive a COVID-19 booster vaccine, WebIZ requires explicit consent with opt-out by operational policy. These vaccine recipients must give explicit consent, or opt in, to participate in the IIS.

Provider Reporting

The Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands does have a mandate for vaccination providers to report immunizations to WebIZ. The reporting mandate:

  • Applies only to a subset of vaccine recipients (i.e., children ages 5 to 11),
  • Applies only to certain providers (i.e., nurses, pharmacists), and
  • Applies only to specific immunizations (i.e., Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccines).

Data Sharing

The Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands' policy to regulate sharing data from WebIZ with other public health entities is not known at this time.
