What to know

Immunization information systems (IIS) are confidential, population-based, computerized databases that record all immunization doses administered by participating providers to persons residing within a given geopolitical area. This information details how to access immunization records for vaccine recipients who received a vaccine in Idaho.

General Information

Idaho's IIS is the Immunization Reminder Information System (IRIS), and it includes immunization records for vaccine recipients of all ages. Visit this webpage to learn more about the IIS.

The jurisdiction is authorized by law to operate IRIS. For more information, please see Idaho Statutes § 39-4803(1).

Child Consent to Participate

For children, IRIS requires implicit consent with opt-out by law. Children are included in the IIS unless their parent(s)/guardian(s) choose to opt them out.

Adult Consent to Participate

For adults, IRIS requires implicit consent with opt-out by operational policy. Adults are included in the IIS unless they choose to opt out.

Provider Reporting

Idaho does have a mandate for vaccination providers to report immunizations to IRIS. The reporting mandate:

  • Applies only to a subset of vaccine recipients.

Data Sharing

Idaho does have a policy that regulates sharing data from IRIS with other public health entities. The data sharing policy:

  • Requires protecting the data's confidentiality and
  • Allows data to be shared upon request or with approval/authorization.
