Immunization information systems (IIS) are confidential, population-based, computerized databases that record all immunization doses administered by participating providers to persons residing within a given geopolitical area. This information details how to access immunization records for vaccine recipients who received a vaccine in the District of Columbia.
General Information
The District of Columbia's IIS is called DOCIIS, and it includes immunization records for vaccine recipients of all ages. Visit this webpage to learn more about the IIS.
The jurisdiction is authorized by law to operate DOCIIS. For more information, please see D.C. Municipal Regulations 22-B129.
Child Consent to Participate
For children, DOCIIS requires implicit consent with opt-out by operational policy. Children are included in the IIS unless their parent(s)/guardian(s) choose to opt them out.
Adult Consent to Participate
For adults, DOCIIS requires implicit consent with opt-out by operational policy. Adults are included in the IIS unless they choose to opt out.
Provider Reporting
The District of Columbia does have a mandate for vaccination providers to report immunizations to DOCIIS. The reporting mandate:
