My Family Health Portrait Algorithms

What to know

Health professionals, researchers, and others might find information on the underlying algorithms used in family health history risk assessment tools helpful. The algorithms for the My Family Health Portrait (MFHP) web-based tool and the MFHP: Cancer app, available for iOS and Android, are provided on the following pages. The hereditary breast and ovarian cancer, colorectal cancer, and heart disease algorithms assess risk based only on family health history and do not account for other factors that affect risk, such as age, body mass index, eating habits, physical activity, smoking, and alcohol use.
