Epi Info™ Sunset Updates and FAQs

After careful consideration, CDC’s Office of Public Health Data, Surveillance, and Technology (OPHDST) is phasing out support for Epi Info™. Product development and technical assistance for Epi Info™ will discontinue after Sept. 30, 2025. The Desktop tool could be functional without CDC assistance as long as Windows 11 is supported by Microsoft. The decision to discontinue Epi Info™ is part of OPHDST’s realignment of resources to focus on products consistent with our “One Public Health Approach ” to data modernization.

OPHDST understands that this may impact your operations, and we want to ensure users have ample time to transition smoothly. We encourage users to identify and migrate to alternative software solutions that best meet your current and future needs before Sept. 30, 2025.

OPHDST recognizes that Epi Info™ has been an integral part of users’ public health work for nearly four decades. We appreciate the trust you have placed in Epi Info™ and CDC. If you have any questions, concerns, or need assistance with the transition, please reach out to our customer support team at epiinfohelp@cdc.gov.

Timeline for Phase-Out

Epi Info™ is used worldwide for the rapid assessment of disease outbreaks; development of small to mid-sized disease surveillance systems; as ad hoc components integrated with other large scale or enterprise-wide public health information systems; and in the continuous education of public health.
