At a glance
Vesicants, or "blister agents," are human-made chemical warfare agents that cause blistering of the skin and mucous membranes on contact. These agents can be spread as a liquid, gas, or spray, and they cause damage by direct contact with skin, eyes, and the pathway from the nose and mouth to the lungs.
