Riot Control Agents

At a glance

Riot control agents, often referred to as tear gas, are chemicals used by law enforcement and military personnel to control crowds. These agents cause temporary irritation to the eyes, mouth, throat, lungs, and skin. Long-lasting exposure or exposure to a large amount, especially in a closed setting, may cause severe effects such as blindness, glaucoma (a serious eye condition that can lead to blindness), respiratory failure, or immediate death due to severe chemical burns.
