Gifts for AMIGAS Participants

What to know

Small gifts or promotional items can be given to participants to thank them for attending a session.

Overview

Community health workers may want to give small gifts to participants to thank them for taking the time to attend an AMIGAS session. Examples of gifts are things like:

  • Travel-size bottles of shampoo.
  • Individual-sized soaps.
  • Pens.
  • Recipes.
  • Inexpensive kitchen tools.
  • Coffee mugs or water bottles.

How to use the gifts

Gifts are best used at the end of a session to thank women for taking the time to attend. For a group session, here is an idea:

  • When community health workers invite women, the community health worker lets them know that if they arrive on time, they can take part in a prize drawing.
  • When they arrive, the community health worker asks each woman to write her name on a small piece of paper, fold it in half, and put it in a jar or a basket.
  • At the end of the group session, the community health worker draws a name from the jar or basket. This name could be the prize winner, or the second name drawn could be the winner for more suspense. The winner should get a special gift.
  • If the session is being held remotely as a teleconference, the community health worker could type the participants' names into an app that chooses a name at random.

Where to get the gifts

Your gift options depend on how much money your program has to buy gifts. Some clinics may already have promotional items with their logo. You may use those if they are available.
