Uniting Voices, Driving Change: The 2024 EHFA Vaccine Program Convening
On September 18-19, 2024, UnidosUS hosted the 2024 Esperanza Hope for All (EHFA) Vaccine Program Convening, bringing together nearly 100 attendees, including UnidosUS affiliates, P4VE program prime recipients, public health experts, government officials, and community partners. Participants explored strategies to advance vaccine equity and improve health access for disproportionately affected communities.
At the heart of the convening were UnidosUS affiliates, who play a vital role in addressing vaccine disparities by building trust and expanding access in underserved areas. Their efforts ensure that public health strategies address the specific needs of Latino communities.
Notable speakers included Major General (Ret.) Dr. Paul Friedrichs (White House Office of Pandemic Preparedness and Response Policy), Dr. Meg Sullivan (HHS), and Susan Farrall (HHS).
Phillippa Chadd (CDC) remarked, "The UnidosUS team successfully convened many of the brightest minds in the vaccine equity implementation space to discuss the incredible achievements of UnidosUS Affiliates over the last few years in closing equity gaps and brainstorm how to sustain these gains."
Over the last three and a half years, UnidosUS Affiliates have established more than 1,060 new vaccination sites and administered over 700,000 vaccines, helping bridge access gaps and fostering vaccine confidence. As Rita Carreón, UnidosUS VP of Health, emphasized, "Our affiliates are on the front lines, ensuring life-saving vaccines reach every community. Their work is key to making healthcare equity a reality."
Parallel to these efforts, UnidosUS spearheaded a national bilingual education campaign, generating 380 million media impressions and over 1 million interactions through digital platforms and influencers, ensuring that Latino communities received culturally tailored messages. The campaign activities also included a mobile vaccine education tour, which made over 300 visits to Latino-predominant communities across the United States, offering one-on-one interactions with more than 90,000 individuals. Additionally, influencer partnerships played an important role in amplifying the campaign's reach.
Together, these efforts reflect UnidosUS' enduring commitment to fostering health and strengthening the resilience of Latino communities.
