CDC’s National Center for State, Tribal, Local, and Territorial Public Health Infrastructure and Workforce awarded a five-year cooperative agreement to 25 American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) tribal nations and regional AI/AN tribally designated organizations under the OT18-1803: Tribal Public Health Capacity Building and Quality Improvement Umbrella Cooperative Agreement.
Program Strategies
The goal of this cooperative agreement is to focus on building tribal public health systems' capacity in one or more of the following areas:
- Improving tribal public health system infrastructure and operational capacity
- Building the competencies of the tribal public health workforce
- Improving tribal public health data and information systems
- Strengthening tribal public health programs and services
- Improving the provision of tribal public health resources and communication
- Developing and maintaining tribal public health partnerships
Capacity-Building and Improvement Activities
Recipients of this cooperative agreement are working on activities to enhance the quality and performance of the tribal public health system. This non-categorical funding provides tribal nations and tribally designated organizations with the critical flexibility to address emerging needs in their communities; including the ability to identify, respond to, and mitigate public health threats, improving the health, safety, and well-being of AI/AN communities.
