The TB skin test, also called the Mantoux tuberculin skin test (TST), requires two visits with a healthcare provider. On the first visit, a test is placed. On the second visit, the test is read.
The TB skin test is done by using a needle and syringe to inject tuberculin between the layers of skin on the forearm.
Most people who have TB infection will have a reaction at the injection site. The reaction is the
area of induration (firm swelling).
