Persons with TB disease usually have one or more symptoms. Because TB can affect different parts of the body, symptoms can vary.
Symptoms of pulmonary TB disease:
- Cough lasting 3 or more weeks
- Chest pain
- Coughing up blood or sputum (phlegm)
General symptoms of TB disease:
- Fever
- Weight loss
- Night sweats
- Hemoptysis (coughing up blood or sputum [phlegm])
- Fatigue
- Decreased appetite
Symptoms of extrapulmonary TB disease depend on the part of the body that is affected. For example:
- TB disease in spine may cause back pain
- TB disease in kidneys may cause blood in urine
- TB disease in cervical lymph nodes may cause swelling in the neck
