In this video, tuberculosis (TB) disease survivors Renee, Taylor, and Preeni describe why they are sharing their TB stories.
Renee
Renee lives in a community with very low rates of TB disease. She, and her friends and family, were shocked when she was diagnosed with TB disease.
She describes how she benefitted from hearing TB survivors tell their stories while she was going through treatment for TB disease. She uses her voice to help people understand that TB can happen to anyone.
Taylor
Taylor wants to raise awareness about TB, especially among people in the transgender community, and people with substance use disorders.
Taylor remembers having friends in the Philippines whose parents had lost a lot of weight and were coughing a lot. But her friends here in the United States were not aware of TB disease.
Preeni
Preeni remembers feeling very alone when she was diagnosed with TB disease. She didn't know any other people who had experience with TB. Her family and friends didn't understand what she was going through.
She wants to bring awareness to TB disease. She wants people to know that TB disease still exists, it is airborne, and it is treatable.
