In this video, tuberculosis (TB) disease survivors Greg, Preeni, Kate, and Renee discuss challenges they faced during their TB treatment.
Greg
Greg was diagnosed with multidrug-resistant TB disease. Treating multidrug-resistant TB disease may take a long time, sometimes months or years and the medicines can cause side effects.
Greg shares that the most challenging part of his treatment was taking all of the medications.
Preeni
TB disease most commonly affects the lungs. However, TB disease can affect other parts of the body. Preeni had TB disease in her lymph nodes, which made diagnosis and treatment challenging.
She remembers feeling like she didn't know what to expect from day to day. She began to feel more hopeful as she learned about how to treat her TB disease.
Kate
Kate was pregnant when she was diagnosed and treated for TB disease. The pregnancy caused her liver to be more sensitive to TB medicines.
Her health care providers had to find a treatment regimen that would work for her. She remembers feeling very afraid for herself and her baby.
Renee
Renee talks about her ongoing challenges with her treatment regimen for TB disease. She experienced side effects from her TB treatment. Her health care providers worked with her to adjust her medications.
Renee describes how connecting with other TB survivors has helped. She says it gives her hope to hear their stories and gives her strength to complete her treatment.
