>> This video series gives funeral directors guidance and tips to improve the quality of occupation and industry items on death certificates. Now, let's review. Usual occupation or longest-held occupation is what a person did for a living for the longest time. Industry is the type of business or activity at their place of work. Try to collect both occupation and industry so that we can understand better what the person did. Ask what the decedent's occupation was first, because people are more familiar with occupation than with industry. And be sure to ask probing questions to get more specific responses. Remember, when reporting usual occupation and kind of business or industry, provide accurate and specific information. If you need help filling out occupation and industry information, download the NIOSH Guidelines for Reporting Occupation and Industry on Death Certificates at www.cdc.gov/niosh/docs/2012-149.
