NHIS estimates

These interactive data query systems provide health statistics based on preliminary and final data from the National Health Interview Survey (NHIS). Some of these systems include estimates using NHIS data collected since the survey was redesigned in 2019.

Users can view total national estimates and estimates by

  • Demographic characteristics, like age, race, and ethnicity
  • Geographic locations, like region and metro size
  • Social and economic circumstances, like family income

Preliminary data

Estimates based on preliminary data (2019–2024) are available for three-month periods (quarterly) and sixth-month periods (biannually). These systems feature estimates for people 18 years and older across the country—the U.S. adult population.

Final data

Estimates based on 2019–2023 NHIS final data are available for adults and children. Find separate dashboards for children, teenagers, and adults, and a dashboard looking at adults by detailed race and ethnicity information.
