Health status
Health status is based on responses to the question, “Would you say [your/your child’s] health in general is excellent, very good, good, fair, or poor?” Health, United States presents data on those reporting fair or poor health status. Starting in 2019, health status is measured in the National Health Interview Survey by asking the Sample Adult about their own health and the Sample Child respondent (a knowledgeable adult, usually a parent) about the health of the child. From 1991 through 2018, this question was asked in the Family Core questionnaire and respondents answered for other family members in the survey.
