Consumer Price Index (CPI)
A measure of the average change in prices of goods and services purchased by urban households. CPI is prepared by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The medical care component of CPI shows trends in medical care prices based on specific indicators of hospital, medical, and drug prices. CPI has been comprehensively revised over the years.
