Funding overview
The purpose of this NOFO is to support implementation research to evaluate strategies to increase HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). The target population is Black/African American (Black) cisgender women in the United States. The recipient should compare the effectiveness of the implementation strategies in healthcare clinics:
- To increase PrEP provision by healthcare providers.
- To increase PrEP use by Black cisgender women.
The recipient should compare the effectiveness of implementation strategies using patient-level, longitudinal electronic health record (EHR) data pre- and post-implementation. If appropriate and feasible, the recipient should compare the effectiveness of implementation strategies between clinics.
The primary outcome should be increased PrEP initiation among Black cisgender women. The secondary outcomes should be increased adherence to, and persistence with, PrEP. The recipient should evaluate the implementation strategies using an implementation science framework. For example, the recipient could use the RE-AIM (Reach, Effectiveness, Adoption, Implementation, Maintenance) framework.
The recipient should be a provider of healthcare services with multiple sites. Or, the recipient should partner with a healthcare organization that provides healthcare services with multiple sites. This should include primary care and sexual and reproductive care clinics. The clinics should be located in communities with high rates of HIV diagnoses among Black cisgender women. The recipient should ensure that clinical PrEP services are provided in accordance with current CDC PrEP guidelines.
The research project awarded under this NOFO should support achieving the goals of:
- National HIV/AIDS Strategy 2022–2025.
- Ending the HIV Epidemic in the U.S. (EHE) initiative.
- Healthy People 2030.
