CMS Issues Additional Guidance on SARS-CoV-2 Laboratory Testing

On April 30, 2020, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released additional guidance to clarify:

  • The types of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) tests that are available, and whether or not they have received emergency use authorization by FDA
  • The Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) certifications under which each test can be performed
  • An explanation of requirements under each testing scenario
  • Information for Medicare beneficiaries on testing services and coverage
