The Office of Laboratory Systems and Response (OLSR), Division of Laboratory Systems (DLS) manages this three-year cooperative agreement (CoAg) between CDC and four recipients under OE22-2202: Enhancing U.S. Clinical Laboratory Workforce Capacity. Under this CoAg, the four recipients—American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science, American Society for Clinical Pathology, New York City Department of Health & Mental Hygiene (Public Health Lab), and University of Maryland School of Medicine—aim to help CDC enhance U.S. clinical laboratory workforce capacity by building competency to support rapid, large-scale responses to the COVID-19 pandemic and other public health emergencies. Funding Period

Budget period length: 12 months (September 1, 2022–August 31, 2023)

Period of Performance: 3 years (September 1, 2022–August 31, 2025)

Strategies

This CoAg supports the following strategies for strengthening and increasing the capacity of the clinical laboratory workforce in the United States:

Bridge is to strengthen essential links between clinical and public health laboratory training professionals and CDC.

– S1a. Recruit additional clinical laboratory professionals for the OneLab Network to foster an ongoing learning community of laboratory education and training professionals.

– S1b. Provide technical assistance and logistical support to CDC for training and workforce needs assessments.

Train is to develop and evaluate education and training resources for clinical laboratory professionals to be ready, respond, and lead others.

– S2. Provide clinical laboratory-related content for and review of high-quality training resources for laboratory professionals.

Sustain is to embed feasible long-term capacity-building within clinical laboratories so they can maintain an active learning community among clinical laboratory professionals.

– S3. Educate and inform clinical laboratory professionals about CDC/DLS training dissemination platforms, including syndication and OneLab REACH (CDC's new learning management systems tailored to clinical laboratory professionals).
