Improving Quality in Laboratory Medicine

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Division of Laboratory Systems (DLS) has sponsored the Laboratory Medicine Best Practices (LMBP) Initiative to address the need for a systematic, multidisciplinary, comprehensive, and transparent approach to identifying, evaluating, and recommending best practices for the field. The LMBP initiative aims to:

  • Develop and apply transparent evidence-based methods for reviewing quality improvement practices
  • Conduct systematic reviews to assess the effectiveness of quality improvement practices
  • Provide a central source of information on the comparative effectiveness of laboratory medicine practices
  • Facilitate a network for the exchange of information on effective laboratory practices
