Examples of how Rhode Island is working to prevent overdose
Timely public resources
Rhode Island continues to enhance the PreventOverdoseRI.org (PORI) website as the state's overdose cases have increased and evolved in nature. PORI is an online hub for resources and data such as overdose trends, racial and ethnic disparity data, and naloxone distribution trends. The website now includes data visualizations and infographics to show these trends. It provides the public with up-to-date resources for overdose prevention supplies, access to treatment, and public events. Two statewide overdose awareness campaigns referred Rhode Islanders to the site, which had 15,000 visitors in one year alone.
Streamlined naloxone distribution
Based on an assessment of community need, Rhode Island increased the availability of naloxone kits and launched a new central online ordering system to better coordinate the distribution and tracking process. This multi-agency effort streamlined naloxone procurement and distribution across the state.
