Michael Mahar, PhD

Michael Mahar PhD currently serves as the Deputy Director, Global Health Integration and Coordination in the Global Health Center.
CDC role
Dr. Mahar currently serves as the Deputy Director, Global Health Integration and Coordination in the Global Health Center. In this role, he helps to foster coordination and collaboration across global health programs at CDC and leverage CDC's technical expertise for critical global health efforts.
Previous experience
Dr. Mahar previously served as the Associate Director for Global Health Security in the Global Health Center. In this role, he was responsible for guiding CDC's global health security work and articulating CDC's impact to U.S. Government and external partners. He has also served as the Lead for the Global Health Security Agenda and WHO International Health Regulations collaborating center in the Division of Global Health Protection.
Prior to joining the CDC, Dr. Mahar worked at the U.S. Department of Defense where he provided program management and oversight to global health and countering weapons of mass destruction programs. He also has worked at the American Society for Microbiology and the National Academies of Science.
