The National Institute of Allergy & Infectious Diseases (NIAID), part of the NIH, conducts and supports research aimed at finding better ways to treat and prevent influenza infections. APHIS coordinates efforts to prepare for and respond to outbreaks of exotic animal diseases, including highly pathogenic avian influenza.
