Cost of House-to-House Identification of Unvaccinated and Under-vaccinated Children in Urban, Agrarian, and Pastoralist Communities — Ethiopia, 2025
- Presentation Day/Time: Wednesday, April 22, 9:25 AM
- Presenter: Anh Ly, PhD, MPH, Global Health Center, Global Immunization Division
The Issue
- In 2024, Ethiopia had approximately 1 million unvaccinated or under-vaccinated children. There have been multiple initiatives to increase childhood vaccine coverage. However, there is limited evidence to inform the allocation of resources to identify these children with missing vaccines.
What We Did
- We quantified the financial resources required for a house-to-house approach to identify and refer un- and under-vaccinated children to health facilities in urban, agrarian, and pastoralist communities.
What We Found
- The cost to identify and refer un- and under-vaccinated children varied widely by community types and was predominantly driven by staff and transportation costs.
What This Means
- These estimates can guide community-specific allocation of funds, strategic planning, and implementation of community-based immunization programs to increase vaccination coverage.
