2010

Health Impact Assessment (HIA): Coal gasification

Type: Other

Event: Health Impact Assessment (HIA)

Location: Green River District

Purpose: HIA of three planned coal gasification plants that were being considered in the Green River District. The HIA's goal was to do the following:

  • Project the health benefits and consequences of these plants
  • Identify how they are influenced by public policy
  • Make recommendations to decision-makers

As part of the HIA, a CASPER was conducted to assess perceived health benefits/risks of the coal gasification plants. Additionally, the CASPER assessed the health status of the community.

Purpose: Assess damage, health status, utilities, carbon monoxide (CO) exposure, and warning information in response to severe ice storms that caused 36 deaths and left 770,000 people without power across the state for more than two weeks.
