As acting director of CDC Washington, Kenefick connects CDC with the Washington DC policy community and advises the director on policy priorities and congressional relations.

Previous experience

Kenefick has worked in public health policy in Washington, DC for nearly 30 years. She began her career working in the House of Representatives as a legislative assistant for a member of the House Appropriations Committee, covering a broad span of social domestic policy issues, including as associate appropriations staff for the District of Columbia Subcommittee. Kenefick also staffed the House Prevention Coalition which focused on educating and building support for public health prevention programs among members of Congress.

Following her interest in public health, Kenefick joined CDC in its Washington office in 2000. For more than 25 years, she has served as a liaison with Congress and other Washington based policy organizations on issues spanning the agency's work from Anthrax to Zika.

During her tenure, Kenefick has worked on multiple public health emergencies, including the World Trade Center and Anthrax attacks of 2001, SARS, the H1N1 flu pandemic, the Ebola and Zika outbreaks, and COVID-19.
