Reports of Selected Salmonella Outbreak Investigations

When two or more people get the same illness from the same contaminated food or drink, the event is called a foodborne disease outbreak. Similarly, when two or more people get the same illness from contact with the same animal or animal environment, the event is called a zoonotic outbreak.

This page mainly lists multistate foodborne and zoonotic outbreak investigations since 2006 involving Salmonella, in which CDC was the lead public health agency. For a more complete list of outbreaks involving Salmonella, use the National Outbreak Reporting System (NORS) Dashboard.

Public health officials investigate outbreaks to control them, so more people do not get sick. Investigations also provide information about how to prevent similar outbreaks and what steps people can take to protect themselves.
